Alice Gilmore is a rising second-year law student at CUNY School of Law in New York. As a social justice activist, Alice feels it is her civic duty to ensure that people who have been charged with a crime don’t lose their rights, or their dignity, in the criminal justice process. Alice is excited to join the Law Office of the Shelby County Public Defender this summer because of our holistic approach we take to public defense work – which she sees portrayed through programs such as the Re-Entry Unit and the Humanity Project. Alice writes poetry and used to host spoken-word open-mic nights in her hometown of Chattanooga, TN.
