Carly Jo (CJ) Winship is a rising second-year law student at the University of Mississippi School of Law. CJ chose to work at the Law Office of the Shelby County Public Defender this summer because the role of the public defender is fascinating to her. This position ensures that, regardless of your status, you receive the adequate counsel that is afforded to you as a citizen by the Sixth Amendment. It is a key to the American judicial system that we would not have if not for the selfless practitioners of the law that choose to undergo this honorable position. An interesting fact about CJ is that she played Division I college soccer at Mississippi State.
