Learning about the experiences of those incarcerated during the coronavirus pandemic has impacted me profoundly. Most of the people whom I interviewed expressed that they were being treated as second-class citizens. They were managed as if their lives and well-being was not a priority and did not matter. The Humanity Project has fueled my passion for criminal defense and has taught me first-hand about the many cruel injustices and tribulations people who are incarcerated face daily. I am more determined to advocate for reform in all areas of the criminal justice system and to influence decision-makers to adequately care for and treat those who have been incarcerated as decent human beings.
