We believe that public defense extends beyond the courtroom. SCPD hosts and participates in community events across Memphis — Know Your Rights workshops, expungement clinics, community forums, and more — all free and open to the public.

A free two-hour workshop covering your rights during a police encounter, what to do if you’re arrested, and how to request a public defender. Open to all ages. No registration required.

Expungement Clinic

Saturday · 9:00am – 1:00pm · Orange Mound Community Center, 2590 Park Ave

Bring your criminal record and meet one-on-one with an SCPD attorney to find out if you qualify for expungement. We’ll explain the process, answer your questions, and help you get started — free of charge.

Community Forum: Mental Health & the Criminal Justice System

A community conversation about mental health diversion, the Jericho Project, and how Memphis can do better for people in crisis who end up in the criminal justice system. Panelists include SCPD staff and community mental health advocates.

Re-Entry Resource Fair

Saturday · 10:00am – 2:00pm · Memphis Cook Convention Center

Connect with more than 30 Memphis organizations providing housing, employment, healthcare, substance use treatment, and legal services for formerly incarcerated people and their families. SCPD re-entry staff will be on-site for consultations.
