If your child has been detained, you can call (901) 222-2800 and ask specifically for the Youth Trial Division. We are located at 600 Adams Ave.

The Youth Trial Division represents young people charged in Shelby County Juvenile Court. We are located at 600 Adams Ave, and our attorneys specialize in the distinct laws, procedures, and principles that govern juvenile cases.

What We Do

Juvenile court operates under a different framework than adult court. The standard is rehabilitation, not punishment — and the consequences of a juvenile adjudication can follow a young person for years if not handled correctly. Our attorneys understand this system deeply and advocate for outcomes that give young people a real path forward.

Standard Juvenile Court Cases

We represent young people charged with delinquent acts — the juvenile equivalent of criminal offenses — at every stage of the Juvenile Court process, from detention hearings through adjudication and disposition.

Transfer Cases

A transfer case is one where prosecutors seek to try a juvenile as an adult. Transfer hearings are among the highest-stakes proceedings in the juvenile system. Our attorneys challenge transfer vigorously, arguing for keeping young people in a system designed for their age and circumstances.

Our Location

Our Youth Trial Division is located at 600 Adams Ave, Memphis, TN 38105; all appointments for juvenile cases are handled from this location. Juvenile Court is located at 616 Adams Ave, and the Shelby County Youth Justice and Educational Center — where detained children reside — is located at 3420 Old Getwell Rd.

Common Questions

My child was arrested. What happens next?

After arrest, a young person is typically taken to the Juvenile Detention Center for an initial hearing. The court will appoint an attorney from our Youth Trial Division. Contact us at (901) 222-2800 and ask for juvenile services.

Tennessee law provides for expungement of juvenile records in many circumstances. Our re-entry team can evaluate whether your child’s record qualifies. Call (901) 222-2800 and ask for re-entry services.

A transfer hearing is when the state asks to try a juvenile as an adult. This is a critical stage where our attorneys fight to keep the case in juvenile court, where outcomes and sentences are generally better suited to young people.
